Special Withdrawal-Refund Policy
The special withdrawal-refund policy initiated by UMUC Europe when U.S. forces began being deployed downrange in fall 1995, remains in effect. Over time, this policy was extended to servicemembers who deploy to areas tied to the receipt of “imminent danger” pay. More recently, the policy has applied to servicemembers whose unexpected deployment or additional duty has been related to America’s war on Terrorism.
Under this special policy, students who have to withdraw from UMUC Europe classes because they are suddenly deployed to the region will receive a “W” and a full refund of any tuition they paid out of pocket, regardless of when they withdraw. The same applies to students taking UMUC Europe classes in downrange locations when they suddenly relocate outside the region.
The student must provide a copy of their orders verifying deployment to/relocation from the designated region, UMUC Europe’s Student Appeal Form (pdf 56KB), a letter from their Commander, or the education center form relieving student from repayment of military tuition assistance. GoArmyEd students must withdraw through the GoArmyEd Portal only.
This special withdrawal-refund policy applies to active duty servicemembers taking classes with UMUC Europe, and Bowie State University, which operates under contract to serve the men and women of the American military community in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.
