Frequently Asked Questions

Will registration deadlines also change for future sessions (beyond Spring 2013)?
Yes, future registration deadlines will follow this new policy. Students must enroll by:
  • Online: Five days (usually Wednesday) before the session start date
  • Face-to-face: First day of each class
  • Hybrid: One day (usually Sunday) before the session start date
Note: The session start date is usually a Monday
Can my field representative still enroll me in a class after the official registration deadline?
No, because all students will be blocked from registering for any class in MyUMUC after the registration deadline date.
For example, for an online class starting Spring 2013 Session 1, you MUST register by Wednesday, 9 January (five days before session start date). After this date, even if the class has not begun yet, registration will be unavailable for any students to enroll in the class. However, check with your academic advisor or field representative for options that are still available to you.
Will my hybrid class still begin on the first day of the face-to-face meeting?
No. Beginning Spring 2013 Intersession, hybrid classes will officially begin online on the first day of the session, regardless of the first face-to-face meeting date. For example, Spring 2013 Session 1 hybrid classes start online 14 January. Spring 2013 Intersession hybrid courses will start online 17 December.
How do new registration deadlines affect tuition assistance?
If you are using tuition assistance (TA), be sure to check with your ESO for required TA registration deadlines.
Why did UMUC change registration deadlines?
UMUC is making this change to ensure that students have adequate time to prepare for class as our data shows a strong connection between early registration and student success.
What is the new refund and withdrawal (drop) policy?
Beginning Spring 2013, you now have a longer timeframe under which you can drop a class without penalty:
  • If you drop within the first five calendar days of an 8-week class, you will receive a 100% tuition refund.
  • If you drop within the first six calendar days of a 10-week class, you will receive a 100% tuition refund.
  • If you drop within the first nine calendar days of a 16-week class, you will receive a 100% tuition refund.
  • After the refund perioud and for shorter class lengths, varying tuition refund rates apply.
Check our refund schedule for specifics.
Why did UMUC change the refund policy?
UMUC is making this change to allow you to drop a class during the first few days so that if you are not prepared for any reason you can drop and still receive a full tuition refund.
If I withdraw (drop) within this time period, will it appear on my transcript?
No, if a course is dropped within the 100% refund period, it will not appear on your transcript as a withdrawal with a grade of "W".
Will these deadline changes affect any financial aid deadlines?
No, financial aid will not be affected by these deadline changes.
What if I miss the registration deadline - what can I do?
You may still be able to register for seminars or face-to-face classes that have not started. Check with your field representative as soon as possible.
If I'm deployed and miss the deadline due to mission-related circumstances, could that be an exception?
Yes. We understand the need for flexibility in military communities, especially for our warriors serving downrange. If you miss a deadline due to mission-related reasons, please contact your field representative for help.
