Impressionism and Post-Impressionism in Paris

Impressionism and Post-Impressionism in Paris

Paris, France
projected 2007
ARTH 199J / 489J
3 s.h.

The magnificent collections of the major artists of Impressionist and Post-Impressionists in Paris are the subject of this course: Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Rodin.  We discover the profoundly individual way each artist redefined the concept of “Modernity,” the search for art forms that expressed a new revolutionary age of philosophical, political and scientific ideas.  We study the collections of the Musee d’Orsay, and also selected study in the Louvre, and the Musee Orangerie.

Instructor:  Dr. Claire Baker
