Modern French Painting in Nice

Nice, France
Students will observe the evolution of art from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century through visits to museums in Nice, which house outstanding collections of paintings and sculpture. Students will study original works from the Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauve, and Cubist periods including examples by Matisse, Chagall, and Picasso. The class will also visit the Maeght Foundation with its world-famous collection of modern sculpture.

Requirements
ARTH 199B - Students will complete a take-home journal and take a comprehensive examination on the last day of class. This course is open to all students who have successfully completed at least nine hours of university study.
ARTH 488B - In addition to the lower-level requirements, students will write a paper on a relevant topic due no later than three weeks after the course has ended.
May apply toward upper- or lower-level credit for art history, humanities, or electives.
Registration
Tuition for a three-semester-hour course must be paid to the UMUC field representative at your education center. Tuition assistance and financial aid are applicable toward tuition.
Textbook
Textbooks will be sent to the field representative in the education center where the student has registered for the course. The textbook will cost approximately $40. Textbook and prices are subject to change; field representatives should contact the Field Study Office at the time of registration to confirm details. The textbook is:

Accommodations and Transportation
An accommodation fee of approximately $600 covers seven nights in a hotel with breakfast (shared twin room) and scheduled tours to St. Tropez, and St. Paul de Vence by bus, and Antibes by train. In addition, the fee covers entrance fees to the six museums that will be visited. A $100 down payment toward this fee is due with registration; the balance is due by the registration deadline. UMUC Europe reserves the right to adjust costs according to the fluctuation of the dollar exchange rate. If the course is cancelled by UMUC Europe, payments will be refunded in full. Transportation to and from Nice is the responsibility of the student.

Before completing travel plans, it is the student's responsibility to verify with the field representative that the course will be offered on the dates indicated. A fee of $100 will be charged to students who cancel from the field study course after the registration deadline.
