"You may have the universe if I may have Italy." - Giuseppi Verdi

This course is an exploration of the endlessly fascinating city of Naples, Italy, where the multiple layers of diverse dynasties (Greek, Roman, Norman, French, and more) have produced a variety and intensity of civilization elsewhere unknown. Three all-day field trips will bring you into direct contact with this complex metropolis and its archaeological sites, museums, and churches. We will focus on three major periods in the city's history: the Greco-Roman period, the Bourbon period, and Post-WWII Naples.
