Objectives: 1. Interpret visual responses of the arts through verbal language that can form the basis for a discussion with others about why or why not the visual experience is considered worthwhile. 2. Analyze each of the four themes of Landscape, Human Body, Still Life and History, through key historical examples that lead into examples of modern multi-media arts. . 3. Analyze internal and external architecture of our museums from the classical to the modern. 4. Discuss new forms of modern arts in terms of a reaction to traditional forms. 5. Discuss new forms of modern arts in terms an expression of today's values. 6. Explain the reasons for your own personal likes and dislikes to particular examples of modern arts and architecture using language that can share ideas with others.

Quiz will be analysis of arts and architecture. Pictures, titles, dates, and artist will be available. One page of hand-written reference notes is permitted. Journal will discuss selected examples and their historical context each day. Final Examination will follow the same procedures of the quiz. The exam will be distributed at the beginning of the week to provide an outline for study.
Dress Code for Headquarters Navy and Victory Military Club: Neat, casual clothes, not too brief, not shorts, not too casual, are fine.

(2) Modern artist's reactions against traditional assumptions of landscape. Afternoon: Palace of Westminster. Time to be confirmed with approval of our Application to Westminster. Assignment: Examples of each of the rooms we visit. Saturday: 0900 Classroom, Navy Building: Resolution of questions, queries, problems 1000 Museum of choice. Prepare brief oral report about the exhibitions and architecture of your choice to be presented to the class in the afternoon. Include examples that you particularly liked and the reasons for your response. Include the three Criteria. Complete journals for submission on Sunday. 1500 Classroom Navy Building. Oral reports and discussion.
Sunday: 0900 Navy Building. Final Examination
1130 Break for sandwich lunch.
