Expanded Scholarship Opportunity For overseas employees –

At the Town Hall meeting on June 19, 2006, I requested your comments and suggestions to grow UMUC and make it stronger. Thank you for taking the time to send them to me. They were thoughtful, insightful and show your dedication to UMUC. Many asked about expanding the tuition assistance to UMUC employees and their families. In response, I am pleased to announce that UMUC will provide broader scholarship assistance to the spouses and dependent children of UMUC employees, when tuition remission is not available.

Earlier, UMUC established a scholarship to cover graduate study in the UMUC-Adelphi Graduate School of Management and Technology. This scholarship program will be expanded overseas to cover all undergraduate courses without the two year wait period for spouses and dependent children of new employees. The scholarship will cover tuition for one course per semester (for either UMUC-Adelphi graduate or undergraduate) or per term (for overseas undergraduate courses).

Specific eligibility provisions and general guidelines of the expanded scholarship program are available at http://www.umuc.edu/financialaid.

I am pleased to be able to assist you and your families as you pursue your educational goals. Now, I encourage you and ask that you encourage your family to take advantage of this opportunity. By working together, we all will reach our goals. The cost of a college education becomes a financial challenge for most families. We want to support our employees by offering this extraordinary scholarship opportunity.

During the Town Hall meeting, I also challenged every UMUC employee to recruit five new students before September 1st, and to consistently recruit five new students per year. Meeting this one challenge will ensure UMUC’s financial viability and solid growth for our future.

All the best as you recruit your five students!

Susan
