General Guidelines
Transfer credit may be accepted from other colleges and universities, including UMUC, in accordance with the following guidelines:
- Coursework considered for transfer must have been completed at the graduate level at a U.S. regionally accredited institution.

In accordance with the recommendations of the American Council on Education of applicable credit from resident military service schools.. - Up to 6 credits may be accepted in transfer for the management information systems or public administration programs. Up to 12 credits may be accepted in transfer for the counseling programs.
- The courses for which transfer is sought must have been completed with a grade of B (3.0) or better, must be related to Graduate School courses and degree requirements as reflected on the degree progress report and must remain within the total span of seven years allowed to earn the degree.
- Transfer credit is not applicable for COUN 836, COUN 837, COUN 861, INSS 880, INSS 890, PSYC 836, PSYC 858, PSYC 861 or PUAD 704.
- Credits are not to be used for two degrees at either the graduate or undergraduate level.
- Graduate coursework earned for one master’s degree may not be applied towards any other master’s degree and is not acceptable as transfer credit.
A student requesting transfer credit must provide a course description, course syllabus, and an official transcript (see Applicatiion Procedures).
Taking Courses After Admission to Bowie
A student who has been admitted to a BSU graduate program and wishes to pursue a course or courses at another college or university and apply the credit towards the master’s degree at BSU must submit to the respective program director:
- A request for permission to pursue a course at another college/university and that the coursework be accepted in transfer.
- A course description from the official catalog of the school at which the course will be taken, as well as a course syllabus.
