Directions and Parking
The UMUC office is located in the Lajes Education Center in Building T146, room 213.
To find our location from the airport, please exit from the airport and make an immediate left turn. You will come to a traffic circle. Take the second exit in the traffic circle, continuing straight. Follow the road for about half kilometer, and you will see a sign for Posto Unum. Follow that sign in the direction of Posto Unum, which will require you to make a left turn. Drive straight for a half kilometer, until the next traffic circle. You will take the third exit in the traffic circle (driving adjacent to the previous road). This road will lead you to the main gate of Lajes Air Field.
After entering the main gate and passing through the inspection area, please continue driving straight until you arrive at a small intersection. At that intersection, make a right turn and you will immediately begin ascending a steep hill. You will pass the base exchange. Follow the road to the top of the hill as it curves. At the end of the curve, make the first left toward the Top of the Rock Club. Continue straight through the parking lot, staying to the right of the club, which will put you on a small road that passes the VOQ. You will come to another small intersection. Turn right at this intersection and drive down a steep hill. From this road, Bldg T-146 is visable. Park and enter the building from the far-left side.
Computer Labs
The UMUC-sponsored computer lab has seven computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computer lab is accessible Mon-Fri, 1700-2200 and upon request Mon-Fri, 0800-1700.

Testing Services
Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.
UMUC also offers a National Test Center (NTC) at this location featuring exams and certifications in a wide variety of subject areas, on-site support, easy scheduling, and the benefit of instant score results. Available exams include College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), Pearson VUE, and Excelsior College exams.

Additional Site Information
Lajes Field is located on the island Terceira, one of nine Azorean islands - an autonomous region of Portugal. The island circumference is about 26 miles. The climate in the Azores is temperate and humid. The Azorean economy is primarily agricultural, with some fishing and tourism. The Lajes military base is located about 2 kilometers from Terceira's international airport and is about 4 kilometers from Praia da Vitória, a small city with a beautiful marina and beach. The nearest civilian community to Lajes Field is Lajes village and it provides several restaurants and some lodging. Angra do Herosmo, the major city on Terceira, located about 23 kilometers from Lajes Field, has been classified by UNESCO and is on its list of World Patrimony. Angra do Herosmo's historical centre has many places of special interest, including museums, churches, and forts.
Facilities available on base include a library, base exchange, fitness facility, outdoor swimming pool, movie theater, and bowling alley. Lodging is available at the Mid Atlantic Lodge. Dining facilities include the Oceanview grill and restaurant, a Burger King, Subway, Shoppette, and commissary.
