Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the the Aviano Education Center in Building 147, room 1.

To find our location, please drive on base to Area One. Once you have entered Area One, continue straight through the gate. You will pass the hospital on your right side. Follow the road around until you come to a stop sign, and drive straight, through the stop sign. Follow the road as it veers to the left and the education center will be on the left side, in Blde 147. Parking is available in front of the education center. Bldg 147 is a new structure with spacious and beautiful classrooms.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has 22 computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computers are located in the education center in room 17. The computer lab is accessible during week days and evenings, as well as weekends. Hours vary by term. During registration,the computer lab is accessible Mon-Fri, 0800-1700.

Testing Services

Placement tests for English and math courses and proctored exams for distance education courses are available through your local UMUC office. Please contact the field representative to schedule an appointment.

Lodging is available on base at the Airfield, at the Mountain View Lodge, located in Area F.

The city of Aviano is located at the base of the Dolomites at the northern end of the Po Valley, the largest agricultural plain in Italy. The air base is about 35 minutes drive from thge skiing center at Piancavallo and an hour from the beaches of the Adriatic. The nearest city is Pordenone, about 10 minutes away, and Venice is only an hour and a half away by auto or train. The host wing at Aviano is the 31st Fighter Wing, which maintains two F-16 fighter squadrons to conduct regional and expeditionary operations under NATO, SACEUR or national tasking.

The Aviano Air Base is divided into different areas. The most important areas are Area 1, Area 2 and the flight line Area F, where the majority of the facilities are located. Facilities available in Area 1 of the Aviano air base include: a publc library , bowling alley, Shopette, and Four Seasons hotel.
