Directions and Parking

The UMUC office is located in the Sullivan Eduation Center, Building 253, room 210.

To find our location, please take Autobahn 6, until the Viernheimer Kreuz exit, toward Käfertal/Mannheim (German Federal Highway B38). Once the B38, take the first exit, there are signs for military installations posted at the exit. Drive up exit ramp and veer toward the right; make a right turn at the yield sign. Drive straight on this road until the first traffice light. At the traffic light turn left. You will come to "Friendship Circle, a large traffic circle in front of Benjamin Franklin Village. Take the second exit in the traffic circle, onto Birkenauerstrasse. Drive straight on Birkenauerstrasse, which runs along military installations on both side of the road. Once you reach the entrance to Funari Barrakcs, on the right side, make a right onto the post. Once you pass through the inspection area, follow the priority road until an intersection with a stop sign. Turn right and continue straight, passing the elementary school. At the next stop sign turn right. After you pass a Burger King, turn left (if you continue straight, you will exit the base). Continue straight on this road until the first road on the right side. Turn right. At the next stop sign, turn right into a large parking area. The Sullivan Education Center is at the far end of the parking area, across from Subway in Bldg 253, on the second floor.

To locate classes held at Coleman Barracks, please take Autobahn 6 straight in the direction of Frankfurt/Saarbrucken and and pass the Viernheimer Kreuz exit. At the next Autobahn Kreuz, exit to the right remaining on the A6, in the direction of Kaiserslautern/Saarbrucken. Remain straight on Autobahn 67 until you see signs for Coleman Barracks. Exit the Autobahn at the Mannheim/Sandhofen sign, and take the first exit off the ramp, toward the "Militar Bereich." The exit ramp will wrap around and lead you to the front entrance of the base. If you take the second exit off the exit ramp, you will merge onto the German Federal Highway, B44 and come to a traffic light (a large IKEA store will be on the left side of the road). Remain in the right lane and turn right at the traffic light. The road will lead you to the main gate on Coleman Barracks. Once you have passed through the inspection area at the front gate, please follow the priority road as it wraps around the airfield. At the stop sign, turn left. At the next "T" intersection turn right. This street will lead you to Bldg 50. Bldg 50 is on the right side of the road, just after the railroad tracks. Parking is available in the parking lot next to Bldg 50. Dining facilities on Coleman Barracks include a Shoppette and a fast food kiosk in the bowling alley.

Computer Labs

The UMUC sponsored computer lab has nine computers available for student use. Each computer provides access to the Internet, as well as a word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The computers are located in the education center in room 200. The computer lab is accessible, Mon-Fri, 1600-2100.

Additional Site Information

Sullivan Barracks is an Army installation with approximately 7,500 military and 2,700 civilian personnel. A number of U.S. military installations are present in Mannheim, including the headquarters of the 5th Signal Command, the Army's telecommunications command in the European theater. Sullivan Barracks is located at the Kaefertal-Wald Streetcar stop, on the OEG 5R line. It is about 40 minutes by the streetcar from Bismarck Platz in Heidelberg and about 20 minutes drive from the city center of Mannheim.

Dining facilities on post include: Popeyes, Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, Winger's restaurant, and an Italian restaurant in the Commissary. There is an AAFES Shoppette and a Commissary on post. Additionally, there is a post exchange, movie theater, bowling alley, fitness center, and library. Lodging is available at The Franklin Guest House on the Benjamin Franklin Village, Bldg 312 near the Post Exchange.
