Al Udeid Air base is home of the 379th expeditionary air wing. It hosts more than 8,000 personnel from all service branches and has a multinational contingent. Dining facilities include Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway, Baskin Robins, Dunkin Donuts, and Starbucks. Other facilities include state-of-the-art dormitories, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and X in the Blatchford-Preston Center complex. In the Coalition Compoud an outdoor swimming pool, fitness facilties, 24-hour movie theater, and small BX are also accessible.

The country of Qatar forms one of the newer emirates in the Arabian Peninsula. Qatar is a dynamic country located in the heart of the Persian Gulf and the capital is Doha. The Qatari peninsula is located about 100 miles (160 km) into the Persian Gulf from Saudi Arabia. Much of the country consists of a low, barren plain, covered with sand. To the southeast lies the spectacular Khor al Adaid or 'Inland Sea', an area of rolling sand dunes surrounding an inlet of the Gulf. The official language is Arabic; however, English and Urdu are also spoken. The official currency is the Qatari riyal.
