Military Scholarship Programs

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers the following scholarship programs for active-duty military or spouses of active-duty military.

Some scholarship awards are made on the basis of academic performance and others on the basis of financial need. The eligibility requirements for each of the scholarships are listed below. All scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students at UMUC. Most of the scholarships listed below are renewable. Renewable scholarships are those that allow recipients to remain eligible for aid under the same program for more than one year. To be considered for renewal, you must reapply each year. Renewal awards are not guaranteed. You may receive one UMUC scholarship or grant award per academic year. For more information on our military programs, please visit UMUC Military Home.

Note: Note: Unless otherwise indicated, UMUC undergraduate scholarships require a minimum GPA of 2.5 and completion of 15 undergraduate credits at UMUC and UMUC graduate scholarships require a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completion of 9 graduate credits at UMUC.

The Apptis Wounded Warrior Scholarship Fund

  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits during the award period
  • Status as an active duty servicemember honorably dicharged, a retired veteran, or a spouse or dependent of an active duty servicemember
  • Preference is given to various majors, learn more here

Bank of America Veterans Assistance Fund at UMUC

  • Benefiting veterans whose educational benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have expired, or have been fully used.
  • Demonstrated financial need

Blewitt Endowed Military Scholarship

  • Active-duty single parents, which includes Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard and members of the Reserves who are and remain on active duty while receiving scholarship support. Their minor children are also eligible, or
  • Servicemembers who are wounded or have experienced illness related to their service in the global war on terror, and their spouse's minor children or step-children are also eligible to apply. Servicemembers include Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as members of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Enlisted personnel will take priority over officers

GEICO Federal/Military Scholarship Fund

  • Providing support to the School of Undergraduate Studies
  • GPA of a 2.8 or higher
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Open to spouses and children of the following (one or both categories)
    • Federal employees in grades GS-1 through GS-15
    • Active duty enlisted military service members

George and Ruth Bryer Shepard Scholarship Fund

  • Active duty in the Army
  • Children of active-duty army

HSBC-North America Military Family Scholarship

  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Active duty military or spouse of active duty military only

Man Tech Scholarship Fund

  • Providing scholarship support to UMUC Cyber security/information assurance students
  • Preference given to military/veterans and/or family members
  • Demonstrated Financial Need

Military Student Support Fund Scholarship

  • Active-duty military service member
  • Demonstrated financial need

Military Veteran Scholarship Fund

  • Veterans and their spouses and dependents
  • Preference Given to Veterans that served in Afghanistan and Iraq
  • Demonstrated financial need

The Northrop Grumman Scholarship Fund

  • Providing scholarship support to military spouses and dependents
  • Demonstrated financial need

The Orkand Family Military Scholarship Fund

  • Spouse of enlisted active-duty servicemember of the armed forces
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester

R.Ward Terrell Memorial Scholarship

  • Family members of either active duty military personnel or government employees who do not have access to tuition assistance
  • Degree concentration in computer studies or foreign languages
  • Preference given to junior or senior level students
  • Demonstrate financial need

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship

  • Children of Vietnam-era veterans
  • Spouse of a Vietnam-era veteran's child
  • Demonstrated financial need
