The Orkand Family Military Scholarship Fund

For Spouses of Active-Duty Servicemembers

The Orkand Family Military Scholarship Fund is proud to support the education of those who support our heroes. Eligible spouses of active-duty servicemembers can enroll in the scholarship to receive $1,000 per semester towards the cost of tuition.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must

  • Be the spouse of an enlisted active-duty member of the armed forces
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate)
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester
  • Demonstrate financial need

The scholarship is available each academic year and is renewable with a new application as long as the above criteria are maintained. Students are eligible for one UMUC scholarship, to include the Orkand Family Military Scholarship, for each academic year. Students applying for this scholarship will be notified through the existing financial aid process.

Get Started

To apply for this scholarship, you must complete the FAFSA, UMUC Scholarship Application, and 2008-2009 Military/Civilian Untaxed Income Worksheet. Please mail or fax this worksheet to the UMUC Europe Financial Aid Office. If you have already submitted the FAFSA and Untaxed Income Worksheet, then you only need to submit the scholarship application.

To answer the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) question: BAH is paid to all ranks. The Leave and Earning Statement (LES) will not show a dollar amount if you reside in the barracks or housing for all or part of 2007. Nevertheless, you are required by federal regulations to include the "cash value" for such housing as part of your untaxed income.
