What Is WebTycho?
WebTycho is a web-based education delivery system developed at the UMUC home campus in Adelphi, Maryland. Each WebTycho class exists as a secure site on the Internet. Once you are rostered into your class, you'll receive a user login and password. You can enter WebTycho through several servers (Internet computers) located in the United States. Your class will be "replicated" on all the various servers around the world.
The WebTycho interface consists of four basic areas:
- Class Area
- Study Group Area
- Personal Area
- Announcements
In the Class Area you will find the class Syllabus, a Course Content area, and a Conference area. The Conference area serves as your online classroom. Class discussions are posted by Topic. Class members read and reply to each other's postings within each Topic. All interaction is asynchronous. No real time chat is required though some instructors hold optional chat sessions.
In the Study Group Area, small subgroups can work collaboratively online, discuss assignments, create and edit common documents.
The Personal Area is where you turn in Assignments to your instructor, send e-mail to your classmates, or change your password.
The Announcements area contains -- you guessed it -- announcements.
If you work through the tutorial/users guide, you'll know as much as you can without actually participating in a class. Once you're in your own WebTycho class, we're sure you'll like the ease of use WebTycho provides.
