Who May Enroll

Under the tri-services education contract beginning 1 August 2003, UMUC Europe is permitted to offer undergraduate liberal arts courses and graduate courses by multi-media delivery methods, i.e., videotape, CD-ROM, computer-assisted learning, online web-based conferencing, etc. The contract provides another school with exclusive rights to offer career/technical (C/T) courses via multi-media.

In general the same enrollment requirements apply for distance education (DE) courses as for regular UMUC Europe courses. In Germany and most other countries served by UMUC-Europe, prospective students must have an ID card issued by the U.S. military. Locate your nearest U.S. military installation and ask at the education center if you meet the enrollments requirements.

Students must provide their own computer, modem, communication software, and a reliable personal e-mail address. Any e-mail address --in the student's name-- that is accessible via the Internet is acceptable. A UMUC reservation request form for online DE courses is the only acceptable method for requesting enrollment and participation in the UMUC Europe DE program.

Generally, to succeed in DE courses students should be "self-starters" with good independent study habits and should possess good writing skills.

It is recommended that undergraduate DE students also have completed thirty (30) semester hours of college or university course work with a GPA of 2.0 or better to include the successful completion of ENGL 101 or its equivalent.
